How do you want it?
I think what we are experiencing now is the breakdown of the institutions that we as citizens of the western world have all taken for granted for our entire lives. It is probably inevitable that they are failing. Is it intentional or accidental? I don’t know for sure. The banking/monetary system is one such institution. As it is currently designed, the end result is to make those who have the cash, get more cash. If my grandpa got rich from the slave trade or selling opium to poor Chinese workers I now get to lend it out at interest and make more money. There are many documentaries covering this issue such as money as debt, the money masters etc. They are available to watch for free on google video. Are they entertaining? Maybe not, but our lack of understanding in these areas is what allows it to continue.
Normal working people who want a decent life must beg at the bankers door so they can get a shot at the “American Dream”. This idea has been beaten into our heads by marketers and Hollywood since childhood. This idea has become more and more difficult to attain as the years have passed. In most families, both parents work, in many cases longer than the mandatory 40 hours per week, just to get by. Many must use the credit card to make ends meet. Although things have gotten harder for most, for a long time many Americans have lived at a greater standard of living than the rest of the world. This was destined to end sometime, Clinton just gave it a push when he signed NAFTA into law. Those 30 dollar an hour jobs got shipped to Mexico. It was a no brainer for corporations to ship the jobs to poorer countries where the slaves..I mean workers will do the same work for much less pay and benefits. I believe that the current financial collapse and ensuing depression will make it an even rougher ride for Americans and other citizens of western countries. We are in a transitional period. What life becomes can be influenced by decisions that each of us make. If we choose not to be active participants in the process, the choices will be made for us by the same folks that created the mess. Already this is happening. The banks who caused the problems get a blank check from both Bush and Obama. This is just propping up an obsolete, corrupt, and unfair system. It should be replaced by a system that helps all peoples, not just the richest 1%. If we as normal people don’t know about, care about or actively participate in this process the alternatives we will be given will not look out for our best interests.
I think that with the current available technology, especially the internet, the world has become a much smaller place. Information is able to flow more freely than ever. We now can play chess with some guy in India or chat with a cutie from Brazil. The implications are huge. Travel between nations is easier than ever before. The opportunity for international cooperation for the benefit of all is more possible than ever before. A second advantage that we have over our parents and ancestors is that we have access to volumes of information that has never before been available. We now can better understand our world if we put a little effort forth. Our parents had ABC, NBC and the Newspapers..If it wasn’t on/in there, they didn’t hear about it. Information was highly limited to a few perspectives. Do you see what I’m getting at? That being said, we now have the problem of information overload. Personally, I prefer it to the previous option. I believe the World could become a more integrated, efficient and peaceful place. The possibility exists that Nation states as we know them today could dissolve.
At some point we may be faced with the idea of a single government for our planet. I think this idea in itself is neither positive or negative. It could go either way. If it is a system where all people have a voice and are able to have an input into what they believe life should be, then it could be great. There would be great advantages and efficencies created by the people of the world working together to make it better for all. Currently, the borders of nations act as artificial man-made barriers to the movement of resources to the opportunities where they could be used most effectively. Also, If we were working together there would be an exponential increase in productivity and the standard of living could be raised for everyone.(See the ideas of Buckminster Fuller) If we had a common goal war would be much less likely.
Option B is to let the current powers that be, the ones who put these imploding institutions in place, implement their own form of Global system. There has already been talk and actions(SDR’s) about a new global currency to replace the dollar as the reserve currency used in international trade. Is it wise to let the bankers who caused these problems, come up with the solution? I think not. Already in the States we are seeing the guys who worked for these banks “fixing” the problem by allocating trillions of dollars of taxpayer money to themselves or the company they used to work for. If their crazy money making schemes had worked, I doubt that the average joe would have gotten a check from Lehman Brothers or Goldman. They lost their bets, now the average Joe must pay for it. Privatized profits, Socialized losses, nice business plan. These are the same guys who instituted the currency that has lost its value from day one. If your currency can completely lose its value your efforts are then worthless. How many 60 years olds now get to work 10 more years because their 401k lost most of its value? 30 years of hard work just went poof! Scary stuff, but it’s a fact.
An equitable monetary system must be created. As it stands, every time a dollar is printed a debt is incurred to the federal reserve. 1 new dollar = 1 new dollar plus interest that is owed to the Federal Reserve. Who in their right mind would pay someone to print money that must be repaid at interest when they have the power to print it themselves. Our government, that’s who…The ancient religions knew this scam. Most of them spoke out against it. They called it usuary.
"If you lend money to one of my people among you who is needy, do not be like a moneylender; charge him no interest" (Exodus 22:25).
They called lending of money at interest usury and condemned its practice. The founding fathers knew this. JFK, and Abe Lincoln knew it. Is it a coincidence that they met untimely deaths? You make the call.
"If the American people ever allow private banksto control the issue of their money, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that willgrow up around them (around the banks),will deprive the people of their propertyuntil their children will wake up homelesson the continent their fathers conquered." Thomas Jefferson
This is exactly what has happened.
Banks create no real value. They just print the money. Now they don’t even do that. They push a key on a computer and it magically appears in an account. Why do they own everything? Why do people who do real backbreaking work own nothing? Normal working people create value. Bankers extract it from us. Its because they understand and control it, you don’t. That’s why we have accepted an unfair situation for so long. It’s the system yall. This system must be understood and corrected if we are to move on to a better world.
I think we are headed inevitably towards some kind of global society. If we do nothing we will get default option B. If you have seen or read 1984 or Brave New World, that’s kinda what I’m picturing. Maybe we will get to work in sweat shops like the folks in China. Maybe a nice microchip in the arm. Personally, I would rather not go there. The Chinese don’t have the right to use the internet and blog about these issues. We still do. We can discuss and try to think of better ways.
I also believe that this outcome(totalitarianism) is not inevitable. I do think that we all need to be smarter and more informed about the world around us and understand that we can have an effect on it. I think that we need to care about what happens all to the other people on our planet. When you ignore atrocities and injustice abroad, it will eventually come home to you.
Unfortunately, we have been taught that the individual can do very little. I disagree. If you take many individuals added together, you then have something very powerful. Also read Bucky Fuller’s Guinea Pig B. It’s an example of what one man can do to improve things.
Education must be changed as well.
“The fact that 99% of humanity does not understand nature is the prime reason for humanity’s failure to exercise its option to attain universally sustainable physical success on this planet. The prime barrier to humanity’s discovery and comprehension of nature is the obscurity of the mathematical language of science. Fortunately, however nature is not using the strictly imaginary, awkward and unrealistic coordinate system adopted by and taught be present day academic science.” Bucky Fuller
“Natural is what nature permits” BF
“God is the unknowable totality of generalized principles” BF
